On January 1, 1994, the mighty Florida State
Seminoles met the undefeated Nebraska
Cornhuskers in the FedEx Orange Bowl for the
National Championship. Florida State, led by
Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, came
from behind to defeat Nebraska 18 - 16 to

Championship crown.
In a tight game, Seminole freshman place-
kicker Scott Bentley split the uprights from 22
yards out with just 21 seconds left in regulation
to cap the comeback. The winning kick was
Bentley's fourth of the day and tied an Orange
Bowl record.
